Indications
Bilberry is rich in antioxidants known as anthocyanins which can help to reduce inflammation, but more research is needed for systemic effects, however Bilberry consumption has been found to be beneficial to reduce gum inflammation and bleeding (gingivitis) , eye fatigue from prolonged screen time and retinal degeneration.
Contraindications
Bilberry is generally well tolerated for short-term use for upto a year. Anthocyanins may inhibit anticancer medications, antibiotics, beta blockers and arthritis drugs. Talk to a health-care provider if you are on other medications and plan to use Bilberry.
Preparation and Dosing
A typical dose of dried berries is 20-60 grams daily, though different amounts have been used in research and preparations are available as juice as well as in capsule form.
